Why Do I Have a Pending Charge on My Card If My Order Did Not Go Through?Updated 9 hours ago

Why Do I Have a Pending Charge on My Card If My Order Did Not Go Through?

Understanding pending authorizations, unsuccessful payments, and temporary charges at Buitrago Cigars.

At Buitrago Cigars, we understand how concerning it can be to see a pending charge on your credit or debit card when your order was not successfully completed.

In most cases, this is a temporary authorization hold placed by your bank or card issuer, not an actual completed charge.

Below, we explain why this happens, when the funds may become available again, and what steps you should take.

Why Is There a Pending Charge If My Order Was Not Completed?

When you attempt to place an order at Buitrago Cigars, our payment processor communicates with your financial institution to verify your payment information and confirm that sufficient funds or credit are available.

During this process, your bank may temporarily authorize the transaction amount.

However, the order may fail to complete for several reasons, including:

  • Incorrect billing address or payment information.

  • A billing address that does not match your card issuer's records.

  • A transaction flagged by our payment processor's fraud prevention system.

  • A declined or interrupted payment authorization.

  • An error during the checkout process.

  • A temporary connection issue between the payment processor and your financial institution.

  • Additional security verification required by your card issuer.

Even when your order is unsuccessful, the temporary authorization may remain visible on your account.

Important: A pending authorization does not necessarily mean that Buitrago Cigars has received or collected your payment.

Did Buitrago Cigars Charge My Card?

If your order was not successfully completed and the payment was not captured, Buitrago Cigars has not collected the funds.

What you may be seeing is a temporary authorization hold from your bank.

There is an important difference between these two transaction types:

Pending Authorization: Your financial institution temporarily reserves funds or available credit while the transaction is being processed. This is not necessarily a completed payment.

Posted or Completed Charge: The payment has been finalized and charged to your account.

If you do not receive an order confirmation, we recommend contacting our customer service team before attempting multiple additional purchases.

How Long Does It Take for a Pending Charge to Disappear?

Most temporary authorization holds are released automatically by the card issuer.

In many cases, pending authorizations disappear within 3–7 business days, although the actual timeframe varies depending on your bank, card type, and financial institution.

Some banks may release the authorization sooner, while others may take longer.

Please understand that Buitrago Cigars cannot guarantee when your bank will release a pending authorization, because the timing is controlled by your financial institution.

Can Buitrago Cigars Remove or Refund the Pending Charge?

If the payment was never captured, there is no completed payment for Buitrago Cigars to refund.

In these circumstances, the pending authorization must generally expire or be released through your financial institution.

Our customer service team can help determine whether an order was successfully created and whether a payment was captured.

If a payment was actually captured but the order was not created or completed, we will investigate the transaction and arrange any refund that is due to the original payment method.

Please note: A refund for a completed payment and the release of a temporary authorization are two different banking processes.

What Should I Do If I See a Pending Charge but Have No Order Confirmation?

We recommend taking the following steps:

  1. Check your email: Look for an order confirmation from Buitrago Cigars, including your spam or junk folder.

  2. Check your account: If you have an account with us, log in at Buitrago Cigars to review your order history.

  3. Review your bank statement: Determine whether the transaction is marked as pending or completed.

  4. Avoid repeated checkout attempts: Multiple attempts may create additional temporary authorizations.

  5. Contact our customer service team: If you are unsure whether your order was received, we can help investigate.

  6. Contact your bank: If the authorization remains pending beyond the timeframe provided by your bank, ask when it will be released.

What If I Tried to Place My Order Multiple Times?

If you attempted checkout more than once, your bank may display multiple pending authorizations.

Each payment attempt may generate a separate temporary hold, even if no order was successfully placed.

These authorizations may temporarily reduce your available balance or credit limit.

If no payments were captured, the holds should eventually be released according to your financial institution's policies.

To avoid additional holds, please contact our customer service team before trying again if you are experiencing repeated payment errors.

What If the Pending Charge Becomes a Completed Charge?

If your transaction changes from pending to completed but you did not receive an order confirmation, please contact Buitrago Cigars for assistance.

Our team may request the following information to locate the transaction:

  • Your full name.

  • The email address used during checkout.

  • The date and approximate time of the transaction.

  • The transaction amount.

  • The last four digits of the payment card, if necessary.

For your security, never send your complete credit card number, CVV security code, or banking password by email.

We will review the available payment records and determine whether an order exists or a refund is required.

Does a Pending Charge Mean My Order Will Be Shipped?

No. A pending charge does not confirm that an order was successfully placed, accepted, or approved for shipment.

An order must be successfully submitted and accepted into our order management system before it can be processed.

If you have not received an order confirmation, please do not assume that your purchase was completed.

Our standard order processing time of 48–72 hours applies to successfully received orders, subject to inventory availability, payment approval, and any required verification.

Need Additional Assistance?

If you are experiencing payment difficulties, have questions about a pending authorization, or believe your card was charged without a completed order, our customer service team is available to assist.

Customer Service Hours: Monday–Friday, 10:00 AM–5:00 PM Eastern Time. Closed weekends and most major holidays.

Final Reminder: Pending authorizations are generally temporary and controlled by your financial institution. Buitrago Cigars cannot directly control your bank's release timeframe. If a payment has been captured without a valid order, our team will investigate and address the transaction accordingly.
